Base Station Zero is one of many geothermal facilities used to created usable energy for nations that have territory on or near the Ring of Fire.

Overview

Base Station Zero is one of many Federation Geothermal Facilities located within the Magadane portion of the Arctic Circle.

The primary purpose for Base Station Zero, and all geothermal facilities alike, were to harness the geothermal energy produced by the volatile cordium and convert it into usable energy. These facilities were also equipped with Neutralizers that are injected into the Ring of Fire to alleviate the geothermal pressure and to prevent the cordium from going critical, entering into a catastrophic chain reaction, akin to the Calamity many centuries ago. However, if too many neutralizers are injected into the Ring of Fire at once, it will cause adjacent areas of The Ring to spike in geothermal pressure, making said areas more at risk of a chain reaction.

The facility is fortified with hardened emergency shelters that are said to be able to withstand a geothermal event, as well as gun batteries to defend the facility from attack.

History

Base Station Zero was constructed sometime after the Magadane Territories entered as a Member State of the Pacific Federation.

By the time the Invasion of Magadan was underway, Base Station Zero became the last of the facilities as part of CIF General Faust's plan of destroying the geothermal facilities to drain Magadan of power and cutting the Ring of Fire off from the majority of the Pacific Federation. The facility's destruction was prevented by Reserve Division K-9 by intercepting Faust and her personal fleet, thwarting Faust's Madwoman Plan.

However prior to Faust's demise and in the event that she does succeed in her plan, Base Station Zero engineers injects many neutralizers into the Ring of Fire to prevent Calamity, causing a massive pressure build up in nearby areas of The Ring. Around the same time, Crystal Kingdom has authorized the use of cordium-tipped cruise missiles against the CIF in their attempt to liberate Prospero. These coinciding events then lead to the worst possible outcome, A Second Calamity.
