The Littoria-class air battlecruiser is the second largest airship class of the After Calamity Era.

Description

Littorias are twin-engined airships distinguished by their diamond-shaped biplane design and fuselage. They always feature white combined with another color (blue stripes for the Pacific Federation and green body for Cascadia and the Cascadian Independence Force). Their wingspan is similar to the smaller airship, but they have a notably longer hull of 211 meters. Notably, the unarmed civilian versions operated by Air Cascadia feature a moon-like emblem on their wings.

The first two Littoria models come with seven anti-air weapons, with the Mk.III adding an advanced railgun for a total of eight. Regardless of model, the Littoria will always come with a CIWS on the nose.

History

The first known use of the Littoria-class in the Cascadian Conflict was the Espadon, shot down by Sicario in a battle over the Fresnon Range.[1] A Littoria was also used by the Federation, a Mk.I, during the Fall of Presidia, being shot down by forces supporting the CIF.[2] The Federation Intercept Specialists employed one such ship as well, the Gladeus (a Mk.II), during Operation Broken Chain, being shot down by Sicario's Hitman Team.[3]

The Federation used a Mk.II among the defenses of the Solana Communications Array likewise.[4] Furthermore, Task Force 1 had the Littorias Serule Blue, Vermillion, Salvation, and Naga in its roster. These aforementioned airships were all shot down in their respective battles.[5] Two of these airships (a Mk.I and Mk.II) were utilized to cover the Federation retreat in the CIF Offensive Campaign, but were also shot down.[6] A Mk.II was used by both sides of the battle to liberate Prospero,[7] and months later, fully-upgraded Littorias defended in vain the Federation-held Brite Fortress.[8]

A Mk.I Littoria defended Presidia during the climatic Second Battle of Presidia.[9]

Apart from military use, unarmed Littoria-class airships were also used as civilian airliners during the war. Three such airliners operated by Air Cascadia were present over Briggs Range during Operation Broken Chain, and the CIF took care to avoid shooting them down.[3]
