The Cascadian Army is the Cascadian National Guard's primary ground defense force.

History

Due to being part of a defensive force, the Cascadian Army had little combat experience, with a minority of experienced fighters from the Oceanian War being under the umbrella of the Wild Boar Regiment.[1]

At the start of the Cascadian Conflict, the Cascadian Army was split into Cascadian Independence Force-aligned and Pacific Federation-aligned sides. The CIF's own battalions were overwhelmed in the second month, being mostly wiped out save for the resilient Wild Boar Regiment, which was pushed back to the Salvemini Vineyards, leading to a siege. This is in no small part because of the Solana Communications Array's hindrance on frontline stability by jamming comms. Fortunately, the Army was saved by the arrival of mercenary fighters, which they reluctantly accepted, and the siege was broken.[2]

Weeks later, the Army organized an evacuation of Presidia after being overwhelmed, only to encounter Federation forces attempting to cut the line. They had to leave behind some troops who bought them time, as well as sabotage transportation routes out of the capital to stall for time. However, their field of fire was complicated by the presence of Cascadian partisans, whose presence prompted the Federation to loosen engagement rules. In addition, they also torched vehicles and entire buildings to cover their retreat, and decided to head north and await further orders due to the Solana Array's disruption. Despite the crushing loss, they were able to get a number of their most hardened soldiers, including armored and specialist units, out along with defectors and volunteering civilians.[3]

Slowly but surely, however, the Army was able to maintain their frontlines, gather enough planning time, get back on the offensive and stall and misdirect the Federation advance, starting with raiding the geothermal industry,[4] disrupting supply lines,[5] and taking out the Solana Array.[6] These successes led to the Army scoring their first conventional victories and dealing losses to the Federation unheard of in decades.[7] which led to frontlines merging[8] and a campaign being launched. Victory after one another was earned, and they were able to retake almost all of their geothermal facilities by late May AC 432.[9]

In the week leading up to Operation Anticipation, the Army began shelling operations on Prospero, weakening its defenses. Once they advanced into the city and took it, however, they experienced absolute terror as the Federation lobbed cruise missiles into the city, with the entire ground force there annihilated despite their best efforts to defend and retreat.[10] They recovered after two months[11] and sent out trucks to scout out the ruins of Prospero for retaking later.[12]

The operational entirety of the Army that was converged on the capital on August 23, and took part in the Second Battle of Presidia, and during the battle, threw everything they had at the defenders and vowed to rebuild the country once they were done. Their advance was stopped at the last moment by the Cascadian Conflict Ceasefire, which prompted all units to cease engagement. They read the ceasefire transcript and escorted Federation survivors out by sea, with some celebrating their victory; soon after, however, the rogue Crimson 1 arrived and attacked Presidia, resulting in the death of hundreds of thousands of troops on both sides, almost the entirety of the Army included.[13] Following this, Army survivors treated Federation ones with extreme prejudice, believing Crimson 1 was acting in concert with them despite acting alone.[14][15][16]
