North America is a continent on the Western Hemisphere.

Geography

Dominating the continent's Western Seaboard is the geographically varied Cascadia, which features snow and tundra to its north and hot deserts connected to the Dustlands to the south, including the Aitor Desert, though ecologically stable thanks to careful environmental planning. The Dustlands themselves are the desert wilderness comprising a large portion of eastern North America, and its inhabitants often clash along the borders of Cascadia with its National Guard.

History

Being at the epicenter and housing half of the Ring of Fire, North America was one of the two continents hit the hardest by the Calamity, the other being Asia. Consequently, a giant wet crater was formed in the middle of the Western Seaboard, which would become the Scarred Sea. Part of the wilderness that formed in the center would become the Dustlands, bordering the future nation of Cascadia.

The country itself was formed pre-After Calamity Era after various territorial disputes in the Western Seaboard. However, blood feuds between former rival factions still persisted, though were gradually culled in the long march of time. The rest of the continent was generally lesser-developed, typically part of the Periphery and seeing Cascadia as a beacon of prosperity, proven by its geothermal deposits and energy production, which rose by a third when it became a Pacific Federation vassal state in AC 382. In addition to energy production, Cascadia would attract tourists from around the world.

The Cascadian Conflict erupted in early AC 432, spanning the entire country and costing 1.5 million lives militarily. During the conflict, the Calamity would restart and devastate much of the continent, with Cascadia being the epicenter and the worst-hit.
