Sawaiiki
Sawaiiki, officially the Kingdom of Sawaiiki, is an island nation located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It was an associate member state of the Pacific Federation.
History
At some point before AC 432, the Federation approached Sawaiiki and offered membership for the kingdom, which it accepted. Due to its compatible policy aims, the nation's federalization was underway by the time of the Cascadian Conflict.[1]
This would not last long, however. On May 13, AC 432, Sawaiiki's main port, the Wai Mami Port, came under heavy attack by Cascadian Independence Force-hired mercenary pilots, though their only target was the docked Task Force 1 and adjacent cordium facilities. Although their military units moved to engage, a transmission message from one of the fighters convinced them to stand down. The Sawaiiki then complained to the Federation about their port being ruined by the destruction of its facilities, and blamed the Federation for their defensive letdown.[2]
Near the end of the war by early August, Sawaiiki, presumably in response to the Federation-instigated Cascadian Calamity Event along with commencing port repairs, blocked them from using its harbors, forcing its remaining forces in Cascadia to fend for themselves.[3] Following the war's end, the kingdom likely withdrew its membership as part of the newer member states seceding in light of the Federation's atrocities.[4]
Military
Sawaiiki maintains an Air Force.[2]
Government and politics
Though rich in geothermal resources and highly desired by the Federation due to its strategic location, Sawaiiki otherwise practices a policy of neutrality and general isolationism. This was a major influence in their move to join the Federation.[5] Following the attack on the port, however, they began questioning if they made the right decision.[1]
Economy
Most of Sawaiiki's exports and imports are provided by the prosperous Wai Mami Port.[6]
Geography
From the Wai Mami Port alone as well as the provided geographic map, Sawaiiki appears to be made up of sprawling greenery and, at least from the port, filled with ponds and mountains.
Trivia
Sawaiiki is an enlarged version of the Hawaiian Islands. Its name and governmental system are also similar.
Sawaiiki's name is derived from the term Sawaiki, the Proto-Nuclear Polynesian name for the mythical ancestral homeland of the Polynesian peoples, being rendered as Hawaiki in Standard Māori, ʻAvaiki in Cook Islands Māori, Savaiʻi in Samoan, Havaiʻi in Tahitian, and Hawai'i in Hawaiian.
