The Federation Navy (FN) is the bluewater naval branch of the Federation Military Forces. Rarely, it operates airships as the FVN does.[1]

History

The Federation Navy, during the Cascadian Conflict's early months, had a very small known presence guarding Rowsdower Air Force Base, which was swiftly taken in Operation Carpet Dawn.[2] However, they regardless maintained a sizeable presence at vital installations such as Harkema Industrial Park[3] and Wai Mami Port in the recently vassalized Sawaiiki.[4]

A month into the war, they sent in the 1st Battlegroup to occupy the Cascadian capital of Presidia in the afternoon of February 21, AC 432. The sheer size of the fleet forced the Cascadian Independence Force out, though the fleet itself would stay in port for most of the conflict.[5][6]

At some point during or before the conflict, the Navy deployed the spy ship FNS Cat-Eye to pursue rumors related to the Mercenary Cabal's survival post-Oceania War.[7] It also sent out the newly launched FNS Jerusalem on its supposed shakedown, which was then seized by remnants of the Cascadian Coast Guard aligned with the CIF at the Burning Coast. In response, they deployed a battlegroup-sized fleet to intercept and recapture or sink the battleship regardless of the bad weather, now christened CIFS Eminent Domain, in order to prevent a crucial asset from falling into their hands and therefore discredit their reputed strength. However, despite assistance from air cover, the whole battlegroup was sunk by the battleship and its escort ships and aircraft.[8]

During the Sawaiiki raid, the Navy was hastily scrambled to cover Task Force 1's launch and into blocking positions in an attempt to draw fire from mercenary forces. The effort was in vain, however, and a large number of naval ships were sunk along with the entirety of the airship fleet.[4] The Navy scored a rare victory around this month during the Magadan Invasion through the Lanzelet raining down fire on a CIF forward operating base in Tseliadan.[1] Over a week later, a small number of Federation ships tried covering for the retreat of ground forces across the countryside, only to be swiftly sunk by CIF naval and air forces.[9]

In the final month of the conflict, the Federation's naval supply route to Presidia was intercepted by the bulk of the CIF naval fleet. The escorts, along with the 1st Battlegroup, were forced into a close-range engagement due to thermal interference; some of the first wave attempted to flee the battlespace dumping provisions, but stood their ground when they remembered Sawaiiki cutting off harbor access recently; the rest of their naval forces were annihilated, in no small part by reinforcements.[6] The last of the Navy in-theater, entirely battle-damaged, departed Presidian ports to engage the CIF; likewise, they were all sunk, effectively wiping out Federation naval presence in North America.[10]
