Mission ASKAR-59 was a defensive of the Federation member state of Magadan against the invasion of Cascadian Marines led by General Faust with the support of Captain Woodward, his ship the Eminent Domain and a group of mercenaries. The result of this mission ended with Cascadian Marines establishing a beachhead at Point Refuge and a retreat order for the Federation defenders.

Prelude

After the disastrous evacuation of the Cascadian mainland, Federation High Command was in total disarray, resulting in a loss of communications with Command for a time. At the same time General Faust attempted to persuade Independence Force HQ into authorizing an invasion of the Federation Core State of Magadan now that the Federation is in a severe state after Operation Guillotine. The invasion was approved to go forward, much against Griffith's disapproval, but with a deadline due to how far spread their forces are already at home.

As Cascadia prepares for the invasion of the Federation, ground reserves stationed in Magadan were activated to defend against the coming threat.

D-Day

On May 14, AC 432, General Faust launches her invasion of Magadan with a total of 323 Cascadian Merchant Marine vessels along with Mercenary air support. Sending in Mercenaries and at least 50,000 Marines as the first wave against a few companies of ground reservists to establish a beachhead. As the clock strikes noon, the defensive operations begin.

As K-9A, Driver, leads his squadron into the AO, AWACS Vita advises him that the rest of the invasion fleet has too much fire power to take on and to stay away from it, and instead focus on supporting the defenses. As K-9 fend off the mercenaries and any Cascadian ground vehicles, the ground reservist are overwhelmed by the Cascadian Marines and as a result have begun to taking potshots and falling back as the marines approach. As the situation unfolds itself, K-9C, Cobb, remarks that they cannot fend off an entire invasion, but Vita responds by telling them to do what they can, much to Cobb's annoyance.

Midway through the battle, mercenary bombers approach the AO, with Vita alerting K-9 to their presence and orders them to shoot them down, despite everything unfolding around the reservist pilots. As the bombers are shot down, logistics trucks arrive and the Reservist CO orders for the unloading of ammo and to load the wounded to start the pullout early. Later, ground reservists picked up a Federation Navy contact, believing to be reinforcements, only for Vita to announce that the contact was an enemy Battleship, the Eminent Domain.

Captain Woodward and the Eminent Domain arrive late battle and orders for a Naval Barrage of key defensive points. The first salvo hits true and strikes the Reservist Command Post, killing all, including the Reservist Ground Commander. Woodward then orders the forward picket fleet to 'start closing the noose' and to keep up the barrage until the the Federation can no longer fight.

With the situation is leaning heavily towards the Cascadians, K-9B, Bookie, calls for Vita to order a retreat, which Vita agrees with. K-9 is tasked to take down the forward units while Vita organized the retreat at to put as many losses on the Cascadians. The defensive line collapses, ground reservist E-6 Actual is notified by Vita that orders from up the Chain of Command will arrive soon and to maintain the pullback operations.

As the weather deteriorates and pushes the mercenaries out, the picket fleet moves in to cutoff the retreat. K-9 is ordered to sink the fleet, but as Cobb points out that they are heavily outnumbered, Ulaanbaatar's Peacekeepers, Steel Squadron, arrive to lend support. Steel-1 tells Driver that he and his Squadron will fall in with K-9 on the attack on the picket fleet. The Cascadian picket fleet picks up K-9 and Steel approaching and readies their AAs and SAMs to repel them and remarks that the reservist were the cause of the most trouble during the Invasion. K-9 and Steel Squadron make multiple fast passes on the picket fleet until all are sunk, giving the ground reservists an opening to pullout.

Aftermath

Despite being a Cascadian Victory, the landing was not without cost. Several mercenaries were shot down, multiple Cascadian Merchant Marine vessels and Marine Guard units were lost and an entire picket fleet was sunk. But Faust continued on, much to Woodward's dismay after losing so many sailors. Woodward was sent back to Cascadia to report to IF HQ, but asks Faust if she knows what she is doing in Magadan. Faust states that they will light this frozen landscape on fire for Cascadia's sake. She and her Marines begin the fortification of their beachhead and FOB.

The Federation retreat was successful, but not after losing many officers. Just before K-9 and Steel Squadron returns to their respective bases, Steel-1 mentions that they are needed else where until the Federation can return in country and, impress by K-9's actions that day, remarks the Magadan is in need of new Peacekeepers, much to Cobb's reluctance. Until the Federation can commence a counter-attack, K-9 and every other reservist must bunker down and hold the line.
