Federation Core States
The Federation Core States form the Pacific Federation mainland, comprising some of its first member states.
History
Origins
Most of the states can track their history back to governments and companies that survived the Calamity.[2] In the Federation's early years, the Core States received criticism from other world powers for its clear-cut monopoly on the geothermal industry, which would be counteracted by embargoes big enough to grind whole nations to a halt.[3]
A weakened Federation
Following the disastrous Cascadian Conflict in AC 432, the Core States received worldwide vilification for its atrocities in Cascadia, even from its newer members who followed the now-wrecked nation's lead in secession. This left the states in their weakest position since a hundred years ago on the Federation's foundation.[4]
Military
The military of the Core States is primarily built by the Henderson Corporation, one of the Federation's main defense contractors.[5] The Kingdom of Ulaanbaatar features a major air academy for training future aircrews and aviators.[1]
Government and politics
Due to the strong roots of the Core States, the Federation has, for over a century, dictated the course of the world through enormous political and organizational maneuvering. As the alliance became older, however, the Core States found itself dependent on energy, forcing the Federation itself to absorb more and more territory to its domain.[6]
Economy
The Core States, as mentioned above, has a controversial monopoly on the geothermal industry, though mostly in recent years for keeping their cities active. They counteract any criticism of this fact with embargoes.[6]
Geography
- "You should see the geothermal storms back in the Federation mainland."
- ― Dominic Zaitsev[7]
The Core States are made up of massive megacities that stretch out for miles. Natural space and plant life is virtually near-absent, a consequence of overdevelopment. Living conditions in core cities are subpar due to somewhat common geothermal storms, leading to the states being dubbed a "veritable hellscape" and a "comfortable dystopia". Another consequence of the excess infrastructure is Federation expansionism for the sake of fulfilling these cities' energy requirements, and brownouts occasionally happen.[2][6]
