"Peacekeepers? Who the hell are they?"
"Aces. They're pilots who believe in the Federation first over their own country."
― Federation facility workers during the Apodock Fracture raid[1]

The Federation Peacekeepers (FD-PKP[2]/FP) are elite Federation Air Force units who swear loyalty to the Pacific Federation over their national origin. True to their name, they are normally meant to deescalate conflict from full-on war by locking down entire airspaces in nations, and are not intended for waging war.[3]

Overview

Peacekeeper Squadrons are typically made up of native elite pilots and Federation devotees from most major member states, deliberately so as prime examples of Federation service to their home countries.[4] Crimson Team was the Peacekeeper Squadron assigned to Cascadia, and was known for being its most brutal, merciless, and decorated.[5] As proven by Ulaanbaatar PK Steel, significant government figures can be part of them, perhaps to enhance their image.

Prior to the Cascadian Conflict, most Peacekeeper Squadrons had their planes maintained in parade colors (just like most of the Air Force's) in a sovereign hubris to flash their colors in front of their (most of the time) outmatched foes,[6] and their worldwide deployments involved strikes on mercenary and pirate bases and threats (including in the Periphery, proving the Federation's complete domination against all resistance.[4] Their emblem is even a red version of the Air Force's.

History

The Peacekeepers, including Crimson Team, were involved in the Oceania War, being assigned a Cascadian liaison military officer named Morgan Elizabeth during the conflict.[7] Squadron commander Crimson 1 famously took down the Mercenary Cabal before they could enact their plan to recreate the world in their image,[8] while Magadan's Peacekeeping Squadron roster for unknown reasons necessitated succession.[9]

By the start of the Cascadian Conflict, the Peacekeepers - specifically Crimson Team - did not actually arrive in-country (likely due to a prior, unrelated deployment) until a few days after the Fall of Presidia. Their first known true deployment during the conflict was just before the Apodock Fracture raid; at the time, Crimson was exhausted on fuel and ammo and only reluctantly responded to the attacks.

It was at that point Crimson first encountered Hitman Team as well as their leader, Monarch, who would be their and their command's eventual undoing. The mercenary squad would get away unscathed, something Crimson 1 would regret later on. Following the Apodock encounter, the Cascadian Peacekeepers spread word of Hitman - and Monarch's - exploits, leading to some failed attempts to eliminate them on anticipation. Some, however, would dismiss the threat.[10][11]

The Peacekeepers would encounter Hitman once more at the Bering Strait during a massive furball, having been rerouted from another theater. Despite grouping tactics and concentrated efforts on the mercenaries, Crimson would suffer a humiliating defeat, losing five members and hundreds of allied fighters[3] and almost being finished off by mercenary forces afterwards.[2] Nearly one month later, a Peacekeeper, Crimson 7, was made to test out the PW-Mk.I in Sawaiiki. She would flee the island to the Federation Core States to ensure the experimental jet was completed.[12]

The Cascadian rebels invaded Magadan the day after, and Peacekeepers were scrambled from all across the Federation, beginning with PK Steel,[9] to the country to repel them, and so they did short past a half month. The Khan of Ulaanbaatar, Steel's leader, then announced they needed to be sent into Cascadia to swiftly and viciously end the war. Crimson, upon fulfilling their Magadan orders,[13] was ordered to cover Federation retreats all across Cascadia, being spread thin when the Cascadian Calamity Event occurred, in part due to their commander's orders.[14]

Sometimes after the beginning of the Federation countercharge and the Calamity's relapse, Air Reserve Division K-9 leader Driver, a Magadane reserve pilot most pivotal to stopping the invasion, was put under evaluation. Given how the Khan on the invasion's first day demanded K-9 give an impression of what they could do,[9] signs point to his induction as the first step of the squadron's Peacekeeper membership.[8]

Two months later, Crimson would be sent on their final flight to Prospero, encountering Hitman Team at the new Calamity's epicenter. All except Crimson 1 himself would be slain by the mercenaries, leading to him going insane and attempting to enact his revenge on Monarch three weeks later, using the now-completed PW-Mk.I.[15]

The entire war would cost the Federation most of its Peacekeepers, likely from Cascadia invading Magadan as well besides Crimson Team's demise.[12][16] This would put them at a military disadvantage when faced with the world's wrath following the breaking of the war's ceasefire.

Behind the scenes

The cut Pride of a Nation mission would have established that Peacekeepers went rogue with Crimson 1 to take down Hitman Team. In addition, World Shell had the implication that its only air targets, Zelenyy, were the Magadane Peacekeepers, all of whom were shot down by Monarch alone.

Frontline-59's Faust cut dialogue on takeoff was going to establish Oceania has a Peacekeeping Squadron which AWACS Vita was going to be acquainted with.
