"Steady as she goes!"
Lanzelet Captain[1]

The Lanzelet is a Littoria-class air battlecruiser, the rare airship under Federation Navy jurisdiction.

History

"Lanzelet descending below the cloud layer. All gunners cleared to engage all hostiles; 105s, 37s, miniguns, AA, AGMs, and railguns are cleared hot!"

In response to the Cascadian Conflict's Magadan Invasion, Federation Military Forces began rapid response deployment from Asia to the Far East, one example being this airship unit taking off from Daegu after rearmament and refit to partake in Mission Bellefon-59. During this time, the Lanzelet encountered mercenary forces, causing it to arrive late on schedule.

The air battlecruiser's support call for FA 303 was not briefed to Air Reserve Division K-9, much to member Bookie's chagrin. Having more firepower than the whole bomber unit, it became the leading piece of the attack approach on a Cascadian Independence Force forward operating base near Tseliadan, entering the zone once K-9's SEAD duties were finished. The mere presence of the airship surprised the merc pilots in the AO; it meant the Federation regulars arrived in-country earlier than expected.

They focused all attacks on it knowing the threat it posed, but were all killed by the intensive CAP given by both the reservists and airship. The CO of the Cascadian Marine Guard elements engaged at the city was alarmed and so contacted invasion head General Faust on the development. Eventually, the I/A-52s made it through and leveled the base, followed up by K-9 and the battlecruiser descending to saturate the survivors.

The Marine CO readied anti-airship weaponry, but to no avail; they lost all of their air war junkies and the battlecruiser drew all attention to itself while K-9 cleaned house. The city invasion fell down with the FOB itself, leading to a Federation victory breaking the frontline.[1]

Etymology

"Lanzelet" is the German rendition of the Lancelot tradition of Arthurian myth, historically the first German treatment of the legend.

The name connection (alongside the captain's accents) suggests some link to Albion/the United Kerneuropa Alliance, Oceania, or the location of Wilhelm.

Behind the scenes

The Lanzelet Captain is voiced by Mark Mullens.[2]
