Littoral combat ships (LCS ), sometimes called frigates, are medium-sized trimaran vessels designed to operate near coastal areas.

Description

Compared to larger vessels, the LCS is not very armed, with just one AA gun and SAM launcher, making them some of the weakest combat ships unless clustered together, the kind of formations they almost always appear in.

Littoral Combat Ship - Railguns, or LCS-Rs, are upgraded versions of the LCS designed as maritime platforms for railguns. Compared to the standard LCS, the LCS-R has been upgunned to include a cannon turret as well as a standard railgun mounted on top of the helipad. When in large numbers, LCS-Rs are very deadly and caution should be taken in engaging them.

History

The Pacific Federation and the Cascadian Independence Force operated LCSes during the Cascadian Conflict. Three were stationed at Rowsdower Air Force Base; the 1st Naval Battlegroup fielded numerous standard and -R suffix LCSes.[1][2] The Federation dispatched several LCSes and LCS-Rs to pursue the stolen FNS Jerusalem. However, all of them were sunk either by the its superior firepower or by Sicario's Hitman Team.[3] One was also stationed at Harkema Industrial Park.[4]

Multiple LCSes were docked at Wai Mami Port when it was attacked by mercenary forces, who sank several of them during the raid.[5] The CIF and the Federation employed LCSes as well during Operation Welder.[6]

Trivia

All LCSes use the model of the Independence-class littoral combat ship.
