"Preliminary analysis says this is an Icarus Armories airframe, codename Spear. We'll see if we can find anything about who's flying it."
Dominic Zaitsev[1]

The SP-34R (leetspeak for "Spear", a.k.a. Icarus Experimental Ballistic Airframe) was a prototype fighter aircraft developed by the Pacific Federation's Icarus Armories. It notably lacked a fly-by-wire system due to its nature as a testbed airframe and featured an onboard AI to calculate ballistics trajectories.

It is one of the two endgame aircraft of Project Wingman and the only aircraft not to be equipped with missiles whatsoever.

Gameplay

The SP-34R can be summed up as "bringing a knife to a gunfight". Its fixed weapon loadout does not include any missiles. Instead, it has an extremely fast-firing primary gun (essentially a Rapid Gunpod (RGP)) along with its own integrated versions of the Medium Gunpod (MGP), Heavy Gunpod (HGP), and Canister Gunpod (CGP). Its fourth weapon is a Railgun (RG). The SP-34R is thus an unmatched gunfighter and can rapidly chew up any target, either plane or airship, if given time to focus on it. However, without fire-and-forget weapons, it suffers in large battles where the user must constantly evade missiles. In the SP-34R, mobility is life and quick and precise judgement is life insurance.

The sheer DPS of these combined guns makes the SP-34R one of the fastest boss-killing planes in the game, as long as the user is skilled enough to track the target for a sufficient length of time.

History

An SP-34R prototype was under development at the Icarus R&D site at Harkema Industrial Park in the Scarred Sea, along with the PW-Mk.I, during the Cascadian Conflict. During Sicario's raid on the park, Klara Rask loaded up the aircraft with weapons despite the scientists' intent to preserve them inside containers dumped into the sea and piloted the Spear from a cold start against Hitman Team while the PW-Mk.I escaped the site. Monarch shot down Rask, but the Spear's flight data was recovered and used for Crimson 1's PW-Mk.I, having also been redundantly uploaded to the Federation Core States likewise.[1]
