The F/D-14 is a swing-wing interceptor.

It is one of the aircraft used by Monarch, leader of Sicario's Hitman Team.[1]

Gameplay

The F/D-14 is fast and has decent maneuverability. It can carry six hardpoints' worth of Multi-Lock Anti-Air Missiles, backed by abundant ammo reserves (108 if all three slots are used).

While classified as an interceptor, the F/D-14 can fill two of its slots with bombs and the third with High Velocity Standard Missiles or High Impact Standard Missiles, should the player deem it appropriate.

History

F/D-14s are the main staple of aircraft carriers in major military powers, to the point they are replenished upon every loss.

Monarch and one other Sicario pilot used the F/D-14 during the Meilynx Incident.[1][2] As well during the Cascadian Conflict, both the CIF and the Federation used F/D-14s in heavy measure in Operations Red Coast, Guillotine, and Anticipation, all of which incurred high casualties on both sides.[3][4][5]

Master Goose Squadron, before and during the civil war, used F/D-14s as their main arsenal before defecting and upgrading to F/S-15s after deciding to betray the CIF. F/D-14s and their pilots were stationed at Wensleydale Range and the Solana Communications Array during the conflict,[6][7] and were used to escort the Federation air train, eight of them.[8]

The Federation used F/D-14s sparingly during the later stages of the war, in four and two-plane flights at Brite Fortress[9] and the Prospero ruins.[10] A dozen-strong mercenary flight of them were among Sicario Commander Arnold Frenken's reinforcements in Operation Welder,[11] and took part in the Second Battle of Presidia.[12]

Trivia

Federation F/D-14s
  • A squadron of eight Federation F/D-14s can be seen flying in formation in the main menu.
  • The F/D-14's name in the game files was "Giant Cat".
  • Skin 2 bears a loose resemblance to the blue splinter camouflage seen on the NSAWC F-14A No. 20, which is often seen applied to generic enemy F-14Ds in Ace Combat.
